"Ruth Fischbein-Cohen, a family and criminal law attorney at Ruth R. Fischbein-Cohen in Cleveland Heights, went from being a school teacher to an attorney because of her compassion for people.
“I’ve always wanted to help people,” Cohen said.
Helping children played a major role in her decision to practice family law because she couldn’t stand seeing children get hurt.
“When I was a school teacher, I would see children who were victims of domestic violence, and the children were not supposed to expose it by talking about it. I wanted to help children get through these situations, and live a better life.”
Cohen said no one should try to go through family law matters without an attorney because lawyers often end up cleaning up the messes people initially try to fix themselves.
“You need a good leg to stand on,” she said. “People don’t know what the court wants going into a case, and attorneys know what they’re looking for.”"
